Facilitating music creation through software and sampling
Welcome to rwxMusic! We specialise in the use of software and sampling to make it easier to make music at home, in the community, and in healthcare / academic settings.
Software known as a digital audio workstation (DAW) acts as a tool for reproducing the sounds of sampled instruments. It can also act like digital sheet music, but without needing to understand music theory or notation. This is known as musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) notation and is simple to learn. We teach you how to link these notes to sampled instruments, so notes are played back with the sound of whatever instrument or synth is installed. You can play notes in a variety of ways.
The main barrier to entry is a lack of understanding of how technology can help in the music creation process. Our Software Assisted Music Participation for Learning and Expression (SAMPLE) training makes music creation simple, streamlined, accessible and inclusive. You might be:
Someone with disabilities or anyone unable to physically play an instrument, but you are able to use a computer mouse. You can learn to write your own music and play back the music through sampled instruments as though it were the real thing. No one criticised Professor Stephen Hawking for using sampling technology to speak - it gave him his voice. Instrumental sampling can give you the musical voice you didn’t know you had.
A music therapist who wants to expand the range of sounds and instruments available using technology
A charity or patient representative group who wants to provide new musical opportunities for your service users
Our Musical Intervention for Dopaminergic Ignition (MIDI) Frisson training also provides researchers with the skills and knowledge for how to use sampled instruments to identify frequencies that may enhance dopaminergic activation.
