About rwxMusic
rwxMusic was founded by Dr. Leon Hubbard. A fan of film, TV, and video game music since childhood, he first started using DAWs and sampled instruments nearly two decades ago and has loved making music since. He is unable to play instruments due to childhood disabilities resulting from Juvinile Dermatomyositis, and is self-taught in the use of DAWs to make music when you don’t have a studio environment.
Inspired by music from the movies
Leon understood the process of creating music for modern film/TV/gaming used DAWs and sampled instruments. If a producer cannot afford the expense of live performances by musicians, sampled instruments may be used to create an entire soundtrack. But seasoned pros usually have complex studio setups that look visually impressive, but are hard to relate to. Often you might assume you need all of this equipment to get started!
This just isn’t feasible for many beginners, despite the ease and inclusivity of using DAWs to make music. It is a barrier to entry if the perceived complexity of the setup, equipment and expertise prohibits you from trying. You don’t need a studio environment if you want to make music to have fun!
Research and innovation
Leon worked in the field of genetics and mental health for nearly 15 years and has a PhD from Cardiff University. You could say our DNA sequence is our own personal sheet music! He is a patient representative for EURORDIS and advocates for greater awareness about rare diseases, and is a member of Disability Arts Cymru. He has personally used music creation as a mental health tool, and believes the process of writing music is where the mental health benefits are.
